Forum Shutdown

Postby harrisonfaulkner » Thu Apr 12, 2018 1:37 pm

Hey everyone,

With the minimal traffic this board sees, the seriously out of date nature of the software, and my work/personal life preventing me from spending any sort of time even visiting the site, much less maintaining it, I think it's time to shut things down. I'm willing to transfer ownership of the site, domain, and data to anyone who is willing to continue maintaining the site.

Thanks for everyone who's contributed!

It's probably about time :(

I don't really do any other motorcycle forums now, but if you still want to keep in touch, find me on Facebook (Mikael Gustafson) or Instagram (mikaelvroom).

Thanks for your work so far. Is there any way to "archive" the site for future viewing?

I set up a thread on the ADV forum in case anyone would still like a place to post.

Great idea Dale!

If you watch the thread, you'll get notifications when anyone posts.

This breaks my heart. I come here everyday even though I don't have anything to say. I've been a member at ADV for a while now, but the place doesn't suit me. The VFR forums are not that much fun either. Informational in the extreme though. It's just nice being on a forum that I literally know most of the people and have met them in person.

3rd Gear - I don't really have to shift ever again
4th Gear - Woah, this is fast
5th Gear - You're gonna get a ticket
6th Gear - They'll never catch me!

I'm interested. Please tell me what it takes. I'll send you my cellphone number if it would be easier to talk about it.

If you wanted, you can keep it going. Like I said, I can transfer everything needed.

I'm happy to transfer everything over, but I can't train anyone on how to build/run a website. Once you've got a host and a registrar I can unlock the domain for transfer and give you a download for the site files. It would be on you to figure everything out.

Sorry man, not trying to be a jerk but if I had the time to spend on that kind of hand-off, I'd spend it maintaining the site myself.

Supposedly it works in later versions of phpbb...we would just need to give up on the theme and a bunch of the plugins to upgrade.

I'll be sorry to see it go, I check here every day, although I don't contribute much.
I find it a great collection of friends, open and accepting, with nobody shooting anybody down, and nobody being stupid enough to need shooting down. :D

I understand, life is busy, thanks for all the work you have put in to keep it running till now.

Not being a jerk at all. I'm pretty sure I can add it as a sub-domain on my domain's server. Give me a couple of days to research it, please.

Maybe Hondo will take over the administration of the forum? He can put up a bunch of ads and solicit donations and make money off of it!
